Education & Academics

Born and raised in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, Dr. Kerpen received his undergraduate degree from SUNY at Stony Brook.  He went on to the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine where he attained his Doctor of Medical Dentistry.  After a year of residency at Long Island Jewish Hospital he then trained at Columbia University,  recieving his post-graduate degree  in Periodontics and a Master's in Public Health.

He has spent decades teaching at Northwell and Queens General Hospital  and has received numerous teaching awards.  He has held Clinical professorships at both New York University College of Dentistry and Hofstra University Zucker School of Medicine.  Dr. Kerpens research interest includes the impact of periodontal disease and treatment on systemic health. He has published and lectured on periodontal disease and its effects on pregnancy and preterm delivery.

Dr. Kerpen was Editor of the Journal of Nassau County Dental Society and, as such has been recognized by the NY State Dental Society and the American Dental Association.  His editorials have been published in numerous dental journals throughout the country.  Dr. Kerpen is proud to be a member of a select group of dentists to be nominated, and elected, as a Fellow of the American Academy of Dentistry.
